Storytelling & Science
On the Edge

Brand / Media / Creative Process

Building stories with a strong foundation in the facts. A simple concept is where the magic lives.

Working alongside a media team and scientists was awe-inspiring when looking to create visuals that aimed to captivate a social media audience with facts.

From birth, we are raised by stories meant to help us understand the world. These stories drive our interests and ambitions as we navigate through life. Here are some of my favourite facts brought to life at OTE. I have to admit creating these mini-stories was a blast. I am addicted to crafting stories from complex ideas.

(01) Mushroom Month
Mushrooms in Pop Culture

Mushrooms are trippy and connected with nature. It only seemed natural to create a narrative timeline that connected.

Animals in Therapy Facts
Season 01

Rethinking the infographic and having fun while doing it. Working alongside an illustrator helps me weave many aspects into one image when taking a complex narrative.

The Elephant Shrew has a surprising lineage on the Tree of Life. There is nothing better than having relatives over for dinner. The illegal Pet trade affects the life of a Slow Loris.

Western Ghats Campaign

From roughs to finals.

Illustrations were a tool for showing animals outside of the usual photographic spotlight. Working with elusive and critically endangered animals can be challenging, and the visual tools available can be limited.

Bringing on board an Indian illustrator, @poorvaroid, helped my exploration of giving the animals of the Western Ghats life beyond the mini-documentaries and still photography. The illustrations were used to unify the Western Ghats campaign across the website and social rollout.

Parthenogenesis
Animals in Therapy S1

One of the most complex facts I have ever had to digest and regurgitate for all to understand. Parthenogenesis, say that five times fast, is a complex scientific process that can twist your mind when you learn about it.

Since the scientific explanation is trippy, working with Joe Taylor helped me accentuate facts woven into a very complex scientific process. This was my interpretation of visually understanding parthenogenesis specific to the California Condor’s story. Listen with audio on for the explanation.
